Although only ten minutes walk from the village, Glendaruel has an idyllic scenic bush setting, complemented by a large and colourful garden. Our spacious guest lounge enjoys bush and sea views as we are just above Golden Bay Wharf on beautiful Paterson Inlet, handy for water taxis, kayak hire, sandy beaches and bush walks. Our garden is full of native birds and Kakas (parrots) are frequent visitors to our three balconies, eager for a peanut and very willing to pose for a photograph. We meet guests on the ferry wharf or at the airline office and are happy to help them organise their island activities. Stewart Island is larger than Singapore but has a population of fewer than 400, clustered in a small area. There are only thirty kilometers of road so if you really want to explore the island you need to walk, but you can find boats and aircraft to help you.

Price includes cooked or continental breakfast. Evening meal, by prior arrangement, NZ$ 30 per person. Refrigerator and microwave for guests'use. You are welcome to prepare simple meals on the premises or bring in take-aways. (We usually pick these up for you) We want you to feel at home. If you go on a fishing trip (with catch guaranteed), we'll be happy to cook your fish for you or give you the means to cook it yourself.

We do not require deposits or card information in advance. If you have to cancel, just let us know as soon as possible. We don't have an official minimum stay but prefer to avoid one nighters as you need more than one night to make your crossing worthwhile !
